What Does a New Door Cost?
The most important variable in garage door pricing depends upon the garage door size. Pull a measurement of the width of the garage door, and then the height. Most double car garage doors are either 16′ or 18′ wide, and 7′ or 8′ tall. There are other non standard sizes, but these are the most common. In a single car garage door the widths are generally 8′, 9′, or 10′ wide with the same 7′ or 8′ heights as the double car garage door. When determining the size, it is important to measure the size of the opening, and not the existing door panels.
Choose Your Door Material
After you have your door size, you should now choose your door material. The most popular of which are steel, wood, and composite. Steel doors are the most common and economical, composite doors are beautiful and low maintenance, but very pricey, and wood doors are very stylish and versatile, but can be quite expensive and hard to maintain.
Insulated or Non-Insulated
Next, you will need to choose if your door needs to be insulated or non insulated. This will generally add from $180-$250 to the cost of a standard door, but this cost can be easily recouped through energy savings. An insulated door is also quieter than a non insulated door, and comes with improved warranties. In some cases, detached garages and workshops are not always neccessary to insulate.
